ABOUT LIZ
Recycling and reuse are central to my arts practice which explores the environment and the contemporary world we inhabit.
Since moving to Red Hill from inner-city Melbourne in 2017 I have increasingly incorporated beach found fragments into my work- both plastic debris and natural remnants shaped by time and the elements. I spend hours wandering along the shoreline observing the seasonal shifts and collecting materials.
These materials carry their own histories and by recontextualising them I invite viewers to reconsider consumption, waste and responsibility.
Community engagement is also integral to my practice. I run sustainable workshops for children and adults, encouraging creative thinking around reuse and environmental care.
I believe art has the power to inspire meaningful change - a visual statement can often communicate with greater immediacy and emotional resonance than stastics alone.
Most of my work carries a clear message yet I aim to express it with nuance and material sensitivity.I enjoy pushing the boundaries and experimenting with a diverse range of materials- metal, wood, plastic, paper, vintage tapestries and whatever else speaks to me -all these materials are repurposed.
I find undertaking an artist residency each year is invaluable, providing focus , new stimulation and the opportunity to explore ideas not previously considered.
I'm a co-director of the Cook Street Gallery in Flinders and enjoy being part of this creative and vibrant team.
